John Speakman, PhD

John Speakman is currently the Director of the Shenzhen key laboratory of metabolic health and a senior professor in the Center for Energy metabolism and reproduction at Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced technology, which is part of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He is also a full professor at the School of Biological Sciences, University of Aberdeen in Aberdeen, Scotland. His work mainly concerns energy balance and the consequences of energy balance homeostasis or lack of it for ageing and lifespan. He has worked extensively on the impacts of calorie restriction and protein restriction, using mice as a model. This work has provided insights into the changes that occur under graded levels of restriction. He has more recently expanded this work into humans.
