Sara Hägg, PhD
Karolinska Institutet, Sweden
Dr. Sara Hägg is an Associate Professor at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden, where she leads a research group specializing in the genetic and molecular epidemiology of aging. Her work focuses on human biological aging using large longitudinal and twin cohorts, including the Swedish Adoption/Twin Study of Aging (SATSA), clinical geriatric datasets, and nationwide population registers. Her research has been central to advancing the science of aging biomarkers by clarifying how different biological domains of aging interrelate, how biomarkers predict populationlevel risk, and how they can guide drugrepurposing strategies aimed at slowing aging and preventing agerelated diseases. She is currently Principal Investigator for the Swedish cohorts SATSA and LifeGene. She also contributes broadly to the international geroscience community. She serves as CoEditorinChief of PLOS Aging and Health, is Chair of the 2026 Gordon Research Conference on Systems Aging, and is a founding member of the Nordic Aging Society, helping to strengthen collaborative aging research globally.
